About Russell E. Walker
Russell E. Walker is the founder and principal consultant of Walker Associates, a consulting practice that primarily assists medical device firms and other healthcare organizations with projects in analytics, new product development, business and IT process improvement, and technology assessment.
Dr. Walker founded Walker Associates in 1993. Projects have included creating an online bone fracture risk assessment tool used in nationwide osteoporosis prevention campaigns; developing algorithms and software for a patented handheld radiation probe used in cancer surgery; designing data collection and analysis software and procedures for a multiyear health survey of over 200,000 patients nationwide; and re-engineering IT systems and processes of a diagnostic laboratory to support 400% annual growth. Dr. Walker's clients have included nonprofit organizations, entrepreneurial startups, and Fortune 100 companies.
From 2000-2021, Dr. Walker was a Senior Professor at DeVry University in the Colleges of Business and Management, Engineering and Information Sciences, and Media Arts and Technology. He taught onsite, online, and blended courses in business intelligence and analytics, computer information systems, project management, and operations management at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and served as a lead curriculum developer in business intelligence, analytics, and software development. He co-led the development and implementation of the university's Business Intelligence and Analytics concentration, and chaired the national faculty advisory committee for the discipline. As a National Program Chair for the College of Engineering and Information Science and the College of Media Arts and Technology, he spearheaded the systematic use of learning analytics to drive curriculum improvements, and coordinated the successful introduction of new programs, teaching methods, and technologies across the curriculum. He has received the Herman DeVry Faculty Award, the Ron Taylor Award for outstanding service, and the PRIDE of DeVry award.
Dr. Walker holds a PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Applied Computer Science from Northcentral University; an MBA in Marketing from California State University-Long Beach; an MS in Applied Physics from Caltech; and a BS in Physics and Computer Science from Murray State University.
He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). From 1987-2007 he served on the editorial review board for the
Journal of Computers in Biology and Medicine. A veteran science fair competitor as a student, he now frequently volunteers as a judge for the California State Science Fair and the International Science and Engineering Fair.
Dr. Walker currently resides in Long Beach, California.
